Frequently Asked Questions

GPA/CGPA

Grade point average (GPA) is a commonly used indicator of an individual’s academic achievement in school.

Credit Hours

Credit hours are a system devised to give ‘points’ for lectures attended. For instance, if a student takes one paper in Finance that is worth three credits, it means that she will attend lectures in Finance three hours a week for the whole semester.

The three hours maybe divided into three lectures, two lectures, or one three-hour seminar session.

Credits eventually are added and must meet the minimum of 30 credit hours per academic year. Hence in a bachelor’s degree a student must achieve 120 credits. If each subject/paper is equal to 3 credits then the student would have to do 40 papers in 4 years!

Different courses have different credit hours ranging from one, two or three credits.

Transcripts are compiled mark sheets that are issued by the academic institutions attended by a student. For these to be considered ‘Official’ they need to be attested, sealed, and stamped by the issuing authority at the attended institution.

They can be in two forms:

a) Compiled form with grades from all semesters incorporated in 1 marks card, known as the Consolidated Transcript or

b)Individual semester-wise marks cards.

Part-time work experience is usually not considered. Rather than focusing on specific categories of work experiences, applicants should focus on their roles, responsibilities, and what they have learned from the types of work experiences they have been involved in.

The Admissions Board will look at the nature of the applicant’s work experience when evaluating the applicant’s ability to handle the academic rigor of the programs applied for.

Converting Percentage/CGPA to GPA

Most universities have a conversion system for credentials submitted by international students. Ideally, universities recommend mentioning the original grades provided by their academic institution and avoiding conversion unless specifically asked to.

Also, it is difficult for BlueKube to convert the GPA as there is no set formula, so ideally one should send the information to the colleges, attaching the scores, the highest in one’s class along with the lowest and average in the class. By using this, the a dedicated team at the university will deduce your GPA.

There are also certain external organizations other than the university itself that convert and calculate the GPA for students applying from international locations.

If the university requires an external organization to evaluate and convert the GPA, they will usually recommend the names of the preferred organizations to choose from.

Short-List Categories

Dream: ‘Dream’ schools are normally beyond the reasonable expectations of the student. In percentage terms, the student has ‘less than or up to 50% chances’ of obtaining admission.

Reach: ‘Reach’ schools are “within the reach” of the student’s profile. In percentage terms, the student has ‘50 – 80% chances’ of obtaining admission.

Safe: ‘Safe’ schools are those where the student should easily be admitted. In percentage terms, the student has ‘more than 80% chances’ of obtaining admission.

Public Universities are funded by the government and private ones run on Grants and other contributions. Public Universities will generally be less expensive than private ones.

Students who do not achieve high enough grades to gain admittance into a private university (which can be extremely exclusive) will have a much easier time attending a public university.

Public universities are not as prestigious as private universities, and some careers might be more difficult to enter upon graduating.

Students have more of a choice as to which area of the country to attend school at when they select a public university.

  • English Language Proficiency: IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/Duolingo
  • Undergraduate exams: SAT/ACT
  • Graduate exams: GRE/GMAT

Tip:
Set your goals before starting on any mission. It is very important to have a proper shortlist of universities with the required test scores before you take your exams, this leads to a more focused and cohesive application for the desired school and leads to a higher chance of admission and acceptance.

Applications typically open 8-10 months before the commencement of the course.

For UG applications top universities have three deadlines:

  • Early action
  • Early decision
  • Regular decision

Aspirants should start working on their applications a good 4–5 months before the deadline.

Top University applications require many documents to be re-checked with the Editor & Counsellor before applying to the University & Immigration.

Tip:
Do not apply to universities blindly. Applications incur costs. Shortlist the university based on student academic profile, exam scores, location wanted, and budget.
